Located in the western part of Lysekil in the county of Bohuslän on the Swedish coast, Stångehuvud, is a natural reserve since 1982 and a place of outstanding natural beauty. The granite formations, dating back some 920 million years ago, was greatly desired among stone quarrying companies in the 1800s. Calla Curmann bought large parts of the beautiful granite landscape to preserve it from the stone quarrying and saving it for posterity. In November 1925 she presented the area of Stångehuvud to the Royal Academy of Sciences as a gift and established the Carl and Calla Curman foundation. The deed of donation from November 3 1925 stated that the area should be "managed and forever preserved as a monument to nature".
