The Sassi di Matera, located in the ancient city of Matera in southern Italy, are a unique and historically significant architectural and cultural landmark. The term "Sassi" refers to the two districts, Sasso Caveoso and Sasso Barisano, which comprise a complex of cave dwellings carved into the limestone rock of the region. These structures have been continuously inhabited since prehistoric times, making them one of the oldest continuously inhabited human settlements in the world.
